Spotlight on Kenyan Music Vol. 3

Spotlight on Kenyan Music Vol. 3

Spotlight on Kenyan Music is a cultural cooperation programme for the development of afro-fusion Kenyan music. Initiated by Alliance Francaise de Nairobi in 2005 with the support of the Embassy of France in Kenya and Total Kenya Ltd, and the Department of Culture, the project continues to identify musical talents across the country and promote the country’s rich musical diversity on both the local and international scene.

The programme has served as a trampoline for several musicians, including Juma Tutu, Makadem and Michel Ongaro (Vol. 1), Bosco Mulwa, Sauti and Zippy Okoth (Vol.2) enabling them to further their musical careers on the Kenyan stage. This Vol.3 is yet another revelation of cultural sounds and meaningful lyrics in Kiswahili, Kikuyu, Luo, Luhya and Kalenjin languages. The great names of Kenyan music associated to this project (Achien’g Abura, Suzanna Owiyo, Suzanne Gachukia, Barbara Guantai, John Katana, Tabu Osusa and Abii) as well as the local media continue to make significant contribution to attaining the ambitious objective: that Kenyan afro-fusion music acquires an enduring patent of nobility in the country and the world. We wish you a pleasurable musical journey with Vol. 3 of the Spotlight on Kenyan Music Collection.
